Circular Materiality: Where Innovation Meets Aesthetics
With a façade of stacked reused roof tiles and a wooden load-bearing structure featuring demountable connections, the building raises the bar for sustainability. The warm, earthy tones of the façade provide a soft, tactile appeal, contrasting with the otherwise sharp, business-like character of the Zuidas area. By incorporating circular materials like the reclaimed roof tiles, the design not only represents innovation innovation and reduced CO2 emissions but also introduces a fresh urban aesthetic.
A Building for Connection and Well-Being
The Matrix Innovation Center prioritizes the well-being of its users and aims to cultivate a dynamic environment that encourages collaboration among various stakeholders. At the heart of the building is a striking three-story atrium, which is filled with natural light and connects to a rooftop garden on the third floor. This atrium creates an ideal space for interaction and social engagement. Additionally, the green rooftop garden and light-filled garden rooms enhance the connection between indoor and outdoor areas, contributing to a healthy and welcoming workplace.
Interior: A Vibrant Meeting Place
Fokkema & Partners Architects are designing the interiors for the common areas of a nine-story building. This includes a public café, an event space, and various meeting and workspaces surrounding a multifunctional atrium. The building will also feature office spaces, laboratories, a showcase lab, and a stunning rooftop terrace. Biophilic elements and natural materials will be incorporated to create a playful and inviting atmosphere that encourages interaction.
The Matrix Innovation Center showcases an innovative design that seamlessly connects the urban and scientific realms. This building not only offers functional space but also serves to inspire and foster connections, making the city greener and more welcoming.
