From inside to outside
The design process started deliberately from the inside, with the needs and experiences of users and residents as the main point of departure. The interior world is organised around a spatial concept that encourages encounter, feels safe and inclusive, and places strong emphasis on sustainable materials and a connection to nature. This interior concept directly informs the architectural expression of the building. The exterior form and appearance emerge naturally from the internal organisation, ensuring a strong coherence between inside and outside.
Ambition for sustainability
Woningbelang’s sustainability ambitions have been central to the design from day one. The building features a primary load‑bearing structure in cross‑laminated timber (CLT), bamboo façade cladding and the extensive use of bio‑based materials wherever possible. Generous balconies and shared terraces contribute to a high quality of living, while greenery and nature‑inclusive design are integrated throughout the project. Together, these elements create a healthy, future‑oriented environment for both residents and office users.
Designing from the inside out is a statement. It says: your experience counts.
Dual function, shared identity
The programme consists of two office floors for Woningbelang, with 19 apartments located above. Interior and exterior spaces flow seamlessly into one another, connecting places to work, live and meet. Exposed timber beams and columns remain visible in the interior, expressing an honest materiality that immediately communicates the character of the building. Warm colours, natural materials and subtle references to local culture make the building welcoming, recognisable and rooted in its context.
If a building does not make encounters easier, than it misses its purpose
Beyond sustainability: building community
In collaboration with Nelissen Ingenieursbureau, Pieters Bouwtechniek, BanBouw and Arcon Houtbouwconstructies, the project is designed to deliver future‑proof performance. Ambitions include performance BENG+ requirements, net-zero energy, photovoltaic panels, circular and demountable construction, and an integrated building services concept. WELL features and nature‑inclusive elements support health and well‑being. More than a physical structure, the building is socially embedded and is envisioned as a place where people meet, recognise themselves in their surroundings and feel connected to the village. It encourages everyday encounters and adapts naturally to daily life : “creating communities through meaningful spaces”.
