Architectural internship: Skyhigh learning
This semester, we had the pleasure of welcoming four talented interns who each brought curiosity, energy, and a fresh perspective to our practice. From the very beginning, they became part of the team, joining project visits, stepping onto construction sites, assisting with photoshoots, and contributing to design work across different phases. It was inspiring to see how quickly they embraced the full spectrum of our daily practice.
Cato Jansen: ''My internship at Fokkema taught me how strong design comes from the right mix of great teamwork, good materials, and motivation. Every day brought something new. A chance to learn, explore, and challenge myself. One of the biggest lessons for me was realizing that experience takes time. This mindset helped me grow, stay curious, and enjoy the process of becoming better at what I do.”
Marlies Wallenburg :"During my internship, architecture and designing became something real instead of abstract. By watching, thinking along, and getting involved, I learned how ideas become reality. Working with such fantastic people made this experience even better and strengthened my love for the field."
Sem Snippert: ''Working on real architectural and interior-focused projects challenged me both technically and professionally. Beyond contributing to design and technical development in SketchUp and Revit, this experience taught me how to work within a professional practice. Overcoming these challenges laid a strong foundation for my further career in architecture.''
Doris Kleijweg : ''Thank you F&P for the positive environment and the space you’ve given me to develop new skills, take on responsibility within projects, and contribute to assignments that broadened my field of architecture.''
Looking back, we’ve seen each of them grow in confidence, independence, and creative ability. What started as small steps, evolved into meaningful contributions to full design projects. Through inspiring days and evening sessions, they explored their creativity and learned to think freely, critically, and boldly.
We are proud of their development and grateful for the enthusiasm they brought into our studio. Their presence is a reminder of the collective energy that drives our practice and of the importance of fostering a place where learning and innovation go hand in hand.
